1. Who we are
RiffJar is developed and published by KeyScan IT Solutions UG, based in Germany. In this document, "we", "us", and "our" refer to KeyScan IT Solutions UG. "The app" or "RiffJar" refers to the RiffJar mobile application available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
This privacy policy explains how we handle data in connection with RiffJar. The short answer: we don't handle your data, because we never receive it.
2. Data we collect
We do not collect any personal data from you through the app.
RiffJar runs entirely on your device. We do not operate any servers, accounts, or backends that receive data from the app. Specifically, we DO NOT collect:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any contact information
- Your IP address, advertising ID, or device identifier
- Your location
- Your audio recordings, lyrics, chord notes, or any other content you create in the app
- Usage data, analytics, telemetry, or behavioral data of any kind
- Crash reports or diagnostic data
We have no logins, no profiles, and nothing to opt out of — because there's nothing to opt into.
3. Data stored on your device
The content you create with RiffJar is saved locally on your device, in storage allocated to the app by your operating system. This includes:
- Audio recordings you make
- Text entries such as lyrics or notes
- Chord progressions
- Color tags and other organizational metadata
- Your in-app preferences and settings
This data stays on your device. You can delete any individual entry from inside the app, and you can remove all RiffJar data by uninstalling the app.
A note on device backups
If you have device-level backups enabled — such as iCloud Backup on iOS or Google One Backup / Auto Backup on Android — your operating system may include RiffJar's local data folder in those backups. RiffJar itself never uploads or syncs anything; this is something Apple or Google do at the OS level according to your settings. You can review or change this behavior in your device's system settings. Any such backups are governed by Apple's or Google's privacy terms, not ours.
4. Permissions
RiffJar asks for the minimum permissions needed to function:
Microphone
Used only when you tap record, so you can capture audio for an idea. Recordings are saved to your device and are never streamed, transmitted, or uploaded anywhere by the app.
Local storage / file access
Used to save your recordings and notes on the device, and to support optional features like exporting an entry to a file you can share via your system's share sheet or save to a folder of your choice. Any sharing is initiated by you, and the data goes wherever you send it — not to us.
RiffJar does not request access to your contacts, photos, camera, location, or notifications.
5. Third-party services
None. RiffJar does not include any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, crash reporting tools, or cloud backends. We do not share data with anyone, because we don't have any data to share.
6. Purchases and the app stores
RiffJar is a paid app distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store and Google Play. When you purchase or download the app, your transaction is handled entirely by Apple or Google. Their privacy practices apply to that transaction, not ours.
As the app's developer, we may receive aggregated, anonymized reports from Apple and Google about app sales (for example: total downloads per country, total revenue, anonymized review content). These reports do not include your name, email address, payment information, or any data that directly identifies you.
For details on how Apple and Google handle your data, please refer to:
7. Children's privacy
RiffJar is not directed at children under the age of 16. That said, since the app collects no personal data from anyone, no information from children is collected either. If you believe a child has been able to provide personal data through the app in some way we haven't anticipated, please contact us and we'll investigate.
8. Data security
Because RiffJar's data lives on your device, the security of that data depends on the security of your device. We recommend keeping your operating system updated, using a screen lock and device encryption (both are standard on modern iOS and Android devices), and being mindful of where you export your recordings to.
We have no servers that could be breached, no databases that could leak, and no account credentials that could be stolen — because we don't have any of those things.
9. Your rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and similar laws, you have rights such as the right to access, correct, delete, restrict processing of, object to processing of, and port your personal data.
Because we do not collect, store, or process any personal data about you on our side, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf — we have no record of you.
You retain full control over the data on your device:
- Delete individual entries from inside the app at any time.
- Delete all RiffJar data by uninstalling the app from your device.
- Manage device backups (iCloud Backup, Google Backup) through your device's system settings if you don't want app data included.
If you have a question or believe we hold data about you that we shouldn't, you can contact us at the address below.
10. Changes to this policy
If we ever change how RiffJar handles data — for example, by adding an optional feature that involves a network request — we will update this policy and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be communicated through the app and/or on our website before they take effect. Continued use of RiffJar after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
